OASIS (Orientation, Assessment, Study Skills, Insight, Success) is a program designed to support and enhance all new students’ academic success.  New students to Orangewood are grouped together for six periods a day during the first three weeks of their enrollment.  The objectives of this three-week orientation period are:

·        assess basic academic skills

·        develop strategies such as organization, time management, setting goals, effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and practical collaboration

·        strengthen students’ sense of confidence, choice, responsibility, and community

·        provide a smooth transition for both students and staff

·        empower students to be successful in school and life

Students are given the necessary information to have a clear understanding of the policies, procedures and opportunities of their new school.  They work closely with the OASIS teachers, counselors, advisors, and administrative staff to develop a plan for success at OHS.  More importantly, students experience a sense of belonging, which is critical to their success. The idea of bringing new students together for a three-week orientation program has proven to be a simple, yet highly effective strategy to increase students’ educational success.
